Frank Sinatra at Capitol Records: A PrimerIt’s no secret that Frank Sinatra is one of the greatest popular vocalists (and in my humble opinion, the best) in American history. Everyone, whether they know it or not, has heard Frank Sinatra’s voice. But, like every other famous artist, the myth of his personal life has overshadowed his true brilliance. It’s impossible to cover his whole career here: there are over 1300 official studio recordings. Instead this primer focuses on the period from 1954-1962, his tenure at Capitol Records. This period is widely regarded as the greatest in his career. His creative and vocal powers were at their peak. He gave the best performances of his career and pioneered the concept LP. All 16 are here. Each is as important and as beautiful as the next. These recordings transcend popular music. They are high art. I hope that after listening to these songs, you will seek out the full albums as well as his Reprise and Columbia recordings.Songs for Young Lovers (1954)A Foggy DayThe Girl Next DoorLittle Girl BlueThey Can’t Take That Away from MeSwing Easy!
